Somewhere between the familiar and the utterly inexplicable lies a world full of strange things – hats that suddenly turn into something completely different, giant bead necklaces that can be used for all sorts of odd purposes, and shapes no one can quite make sense of. In Himstregimser og andre duppeditter, children are invited into a jungle of textiles, colours, and soft creatures, where curiosity and laughter fill the air even before the performance begins.

Two dancing figures lead the way into this peculiar universe. Here, the boundaries between adults and children, dancers and audience, are almost blurred away. The audience sits in the middle of the room while the dancers move around them – up close, yet always safely. Play is a natural part of the experience, and it’s encouraged to touch, explore, wonder, and giggle. At times it’s a bit mysterious, often quite strange, but always fun.
The performance works almost like a journey of discovery rather than a traditional dance piece. Afterwards, the children are free to explore the space on their own: to touch everything they’ve seen, open things, turn them around, try them on their bodies, and let their imagination take over. There is no “correct” way to understand anything here – on the contrary, it’s all about sensation and curiosity.
In the artists’ own words, Himstregimser and andre duppeditter is an interactive, multisensory dance performance and installation that opens the door to an abstract world of shapes, textures, sound, and movement. The textile objects have countless functions and respond in ways that surprise both the children and the two strange creatures who inhabit this universe. Bodies and space are in constant transformation: things shift colour, make peculiar sounds, become fringed or wavy, or attach themselves to the body in unexpected patterns.
This is a hush-free zone where children are allowed to be exactly as curious, open, and playful as they are. A performance that does not ask the audience to interpret, but to discover. Not to understand, but to feel.
