Beyond Emergency – Dance as a Practice of Agency: Welcome to In2IT 2026

On Saturday, 31 January, we invite the public to the programme launch of the In2IT International Dance Festival 2026 at 14:00 in Lillesal at Normoria. Here we will highlight the festival’s key moments, present the performances, and offer insight into this year’s theme—while also opening the door to the curatorial process behind the festival.

When spring arrives in Kristiansund, Normoria and the city are filled with dance, conversations and encounters. From 1 to 8 March, In2IT invites you to eight days where the body takes centre stage—not only as expression, but as experience, language and action. The festival is more than a series of performances; it is a space for presence, sharing and reflection, where audiences are invited to participate, not just observe.

Since its inception in 2016, In2IT has grown into a vibrant meeting place for dance and contemporary art. The festival brings together artists, audiences and professional communities in a wide range of formats—from performing arts and seminars to conversations and social gatherings. Under the leadership of artistic director Tendai Makurumbandi, the festival has developed a distinctive artistic profile and a strong foundation in community and dialogue.

This year’s theme, Beyond Emergency – Dance as a Practice of Agency, invites us to see dance as more than aesthetics. Movement is understood as a way of orienting oneself in the world—a place to pause, listen and act. In response to the pace and complexity of contemporary life, the festival opens up spaces for resonance, new perspectives and relationships.

The programme includes both national and international performances, professional talks, courses and workshops. Here you will encounter everything from sensory and playful experiences for the youngest audiences to professional meeting points and performances that challenge and expand what dance can be. The festival concludes on 8 March with the main performance Kjelleren by Jo Strømgren Kompani—a powerful ending to a week in which body, history and the present are in dialogue.

At the programme launch on 31 January, you will get a first glimpse of the full scope of this year’s festival. We hope you will join us, listen, ask questions and step into what will become In2IT 2026.
